Project Type: Private Residence Interior
Completion: Spring 2025
Designer: Ardenel Studio

Nestled in the serene woodlands of Hudson Valley, this private residence was designed to embrace stillness, natural light, and refined simplicity. Ardenel was invited to lead the full interior design and furnishing of this project—from architectural detailing to curated objects—turning a quiet upstate retreat into a luminous, story-filled sanctuary.

The Concept: Soft Light & Stillness

From the very beginning, the client expressed a desire for a home that would feel peaceful yet intentional—a space where natural light, texture, and form would coexist in perfect harmony. Inspired by the soft tonal palette of the Hudson Valley landscape in late winter, Ardenel crafted a space that feels calm, grounded, and quietly luxurious.

Design Details

1. Light as the Central Character
Large windows throughout the home were strategically softened with sheer roman shades to filter the light gently across plastered walls and chevron oak flooring. The living and study areas are bathed in golden light at dawn and dusk, creating poetic shadows that shift throughout the day.

Statement lighting—like the sculptural paper pendant in the living room and the long-arm desk lamp in the study—is not just functional but sculptural, echoing Ardenel’s philosophy that lighting should feel like art suspended in space.

2. A Furniture Language of Ease
Furnishings were selected from Ardenel’s signature line: pieces defined by soft geometry, warm tactile materials, and timeless proportions. A rounded oatmeal-colored sofa invites rest beneath the pendant glow, while a mustard-toned swivel chair anchors the study with a gentle pop of color.

The interplay between rich walnut, terracotta lacquer, and matte ceramics brings a modern, earthy elegance—reflective of both Ardenel’s design DNA and the home’s natural surroundings.

3. Curated Objects, Personal Moments
Small details were designed to feel personal and intimate. From sculptural vases to hand-finished wood bird figurines, each element tells a quiet story. Coffee tables and sideboards are adorned with thoughtfully chosen objects, like The Little Dictionary of Fashion by Christian Dior—an homage to the homeowner’s background in fashion publishing.

Nothing here feels mass-produced or decorative for decoration’s sake. Everything is intentional, warm, and real.

Results

The result is a space that doesn’t impose, but rather invites. A space that glows in the morning sun, embraces you in the afternoon stillness, and transitions effortlessly into evening calm. Through a refined balance of light, form, and materiality, Ardenel helped transform this Hudson Valley home into a retreat that reflects its owner’s values—quiet luxury, natural beauty, and deep presence.
